Can I apply brick veneer on a painted surface?

Q: I painted my the stucco on my oven, but I’m tired of that type of finish. I was told that I could still apply a brick veneer over the painted stucco shell. Is this correct?

Absolutely! Scrub the painted surface with some Comet or other type of cleaner to remove all of the dirt, grime and soot. Let dry for a day or two…

Apply 2 layers of a CONCRETE BONDING AGENT like Dryloc (pictured below) to the painted surface. You can then apply veneer to the painted surface with mortar (but try to use a mortar designed specifically for stone veener as it contains polymers w/ super-strong adhesion).
