Can I reuse the foam pizza oven form / mold? And why is the foam so dang hard?

Two of our Most Asked Questions… Let’s start with the second question first -
.

Why is the foam so dang hard?
When you have 1000+ lbs of Fire brick and Mortar sitting on the foam form, any movement in the foam could result in mortar joint damage. By using a hard foam that has a 1500psi crush strength, you don’t have to worry about the foam form crushing as more bricks and mortar are applied.

Can I reuse the foam pizza oven form?
Obviously the Mattone Cupola and Cortile Barile oven forms can NOT be reused as they have to be destroyed to remove the cast-in-place oven components. The Barile on the other hand… it’s almost impossible to remove the foam form once the firebricks and mortar have set. Plus, as mentioned above, when you have 1000+ lbs of firebrick and mortar sitting on the foam form, those heavy materials press down on the foam, so the foam is locked between the firebrick oven and the hearth surface on your oven base.
