Anyone ever clean their firebricks with muratic acid?

Yes. Here’s a link to a post a few days ago showing the results.
The keys are to dilute the acid before you use it, and to get it off your bricks quickly. It’s strong stuff (like laboratory-level chemical protective gear strong), and what you’re cleaning from the bricks is mortar. It will start taking out your joints between the bricks if you don’t rinse it off very quickly.
