Oven Door Handles

My oven door handles seemed to be getting too hot I guess as the oak is starting to burn away and the anchor for the screws are pull out. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

I don’t know but i had a similar issue. I was using my door in front of the oven (1-2" in front of the opening) in an attempt to control the smoke as the fire was starting. My door got hot enough that it started smoking and one of the wood handles cracked in half about 3/4" from the metal.

I’m guessing the door isn’t designed to take the full heat of the oven and should only be used for low fires.

If the fire is hot enough to burn the wood on your door why are you using the door? I thought the door was used when you were trying to contain the heat while the fire was small or decreasing so you could retain the heat. No need for a door if you’re oven is that hot. At least that is what I’m thinking.

I have been experimenting with the door your right. Keep it off unless you want a smaller or no fire at all.
