Povinelli's Custom Oven

Great question…and the answer is still up in the air. We were considering a cast type dome and I have been looking at recipes on this.

I found the below link… https://www.traditionaloven.com/tutorials/concrete.html

UPDATE:

I spoke with Dave, my friend first and expert mason second, and we both agree that using the cast refractory cement is the way to go for this project. I saw that this site, brickwoodovens.com, states that a homemade recipe will certainly fail and it says to buy a pre-mixed solution.

Thoughts on that, especially after seeing the previously mentioned recipe I found?

Definitely use Castable Refractory - Without a doubt.

Castable Refractory can withstand temps in excess of 2500°… your oven will get to 1000° max. That’s equivalent of having a Ferrari, but only driving it 50mph. It will last MUCH longer this way.

We can send you Castable Refractory, but if you purchase & pick-up your refractory locally, you will save a lot more money (since we don’t have to add shipping / freight costs).

Love how crisp the lines are on the foundation!

Any updates on how this project turned out?
