Hi everyone - We are an Italian-American, Jewish-American house of foodies. The building of this oven was inspired by a trip to New Orleans and a visit to the restaurant Saba. The chef is Alon Shaya, who trained in Italy and was the chef of the renowned restaurant Domenica. We had the amazing pita at Saba and I purchased his cookbook to learn how to make it. So, I needed a wood fired oven to try to duplicate the recipes in the book. We are in Southern California and when the stay at home order was announced in March, the pizza oven project was born. We purchased a kit, but the oven was really built by my nephew with help from his contractor father. At the time of this writing, I am on day six of the cure. I am now obsessed with fire and cooking.
