Do You Cover Your Oven?

We are expecting heavy rain and wind on the east coast tomorrow / tomorrow night. This makes me wonder if my fellow oven owners bother to cover their oven during inclement weather, please chime in.

I do cover the front and put a plastic bag over the chimney when very heavy rain and wind are expected, it keeps the inside totally dry.

I do, I’m fortunate that wind is never an issue where I live. I do remove the damper, and pipe top to make it easier to cover.

I also remove the cap and damper and cover mine during the winter months. The prevailing winds blow right into the mouth of my oven and would blow the rain and snow right in. It won’t hurt anything but does soak it completely which makes it a multi-day effort to dry it out.

Definitely. I remove chimney and cover. Bungies hold the tarp on in the wind.

Keeping moisture off the bricks is a good idea.

Thanks for sharing. I assume your exterior is nonetheless sealed?

Yes. We don’t use it till the weather is warm enough to eat outdoors, so covering make sense for us.
