Just received my Duratech kit. What is the wire mesh for? It isn’t mentioned in the instructions.

If you’re asking about the cylindrical piece of mesh, that breaks up hot embers and sparks flying up through the chimney. A spark arrestor is sometimes required by your local building code, and is always a great idea.
The picture of the chimney itself shows the spark arrestor mesh already installed. You can see from the photo that the mesh covers all the openings, and that the chimney cap prevents any sparks from escaping through the top.
