Insulation blanket

We have decided to use full size brick as outermost layer instead of thin clad or brick veneer. Will we still need the insulation blanket?

Short answer: yes. Brick will absorb heat energy for a time, but eventually will pass it through. The oven will not perform as designed without the insulation layer.

Agreed. Here’s the numbers: The R-factor of standard clay bricks is about 0.8 while the ceramic blanket is about 5. So for each layer of insulating blanket you would need a wall a little over 6 bricks (2 feet) thick to get the same insulating performance. So two layers would be a 4 foot thick wall. Then you have the problem of heating that much thermal mass.
