Used Firebrick on Craigslist - Is $1 a brick a good price? How can I tell if it’s a good quality firebrick?

It’s tan(ish) in color and isn’t too porus. It’s pretty solid and heavy too. Is this a good firebrick to buy / use?

I can get a good deal on it, but want to make sure prior.

Hello Celtic -

While tan or “yellow” is the most prevalent color, Fire brick varies by region and it’s duty rating. All of the BrickWood Ovens models require a Low or Medium duty brick - it’s about 7lbs per brick and not very porous. It’s very solid and very heavy.

The price per fire brick should set you back $1.50 - $2.50 per brick. If it’s under $1.50, it may be a clay or cement brick, so make sure it says FIRE BRICK.

If it’s OVER $2.50 per brick, call around for the best price… $2.50 is getting up there.
